Mr. Jovan Despotovski was born in Skopje. He has a Bachelor in Economy and Finance and started working for the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia in 2003, as part of the Secretariat for European Affairs. In 2017 he was appointed Director of the state Fund for Innovations and Technology Development. Current portfolio of the Fund is 70 million EUR.

Mr. Dermot Diamond received his Ph.D. and D.Sc. from Queen’s University Belfast and joined Dublin City University in 1987 where he was Vice-President for Research (2002-2004). Mr. Diamond is currently a member of the European Innovation Council (EIC) Pilot Advisory Board.

Mr. Robbert Dijkgraaf is the director and the Leon Levy Professor at the Institute for Advanced Study. He is a mathematical physicist whose research focuses on the interface between mathematics and particle physics. Ms. Jennifer Doudna’s co-discovery of CRISPR-Cas9 genetic engineering technology, has changed human and agricultural genomics research forever. Doudna is a leader in public discussion of the ethical and other implications of genome editing for human biology and societies, and advocates for thoughtful approaches to the development of policies around the use of CRISPR-Cas9.

Mr. Peter Dröll has been working in the European Commission since 1991 with positions in environment, enlargement negotiations, industry policy, innovation and research. He was Cabinet member of Enlargement Commissioner Günter Verheugen and Head of Cabinet of the Science and Research Commissioner Janez Potočnik. Since 2010 Mr. Dröll has been in charge of Innovation, Industrial Technology and now Director for Prosperity in DG R&I.

Mr. Gerhard Duda holds a Master’s degree in History/Political Economy from the Univerity of Toronto, Canada and a PhD in History from the University of Bochum, Germany. Mr Duda has been head of unit in the Secretariat of the German Rectors' Conference (HRK) in 1995 and now is now of the Brussels Office and of the Research Policy Department of HRK.
